On the importance of water

Do you drink water after your acupuncture treatment? You should!

Forgot your bottle? As a curtesy to you and an extension of your treatment care with me, I always offer water at each of your sessions with me. Because drinking water after acupuncture or massage is crucial to flush out metabolic waste and toxins released from muscles and tissues.

Water supports the body's natural detoxification, reduces post-treatment soreness, prevents headaches, and rehydrates tissues, ensuring the full, lasting benefits of the therapy.

Acupuncture and massage stimulate the lymphatic system and blood circulation, which releases stored waste products and toxins. Water is therefore essential to help the kidneys efficiently flush these substances from your system. It’s also important to rehydrate muscles and fascia that were manipulated during the treatment to replenish and nourish them.

That’s why I offer water after your treatment, it’s simply part of the therapy and I would find your treatment incomplete without. At first, I chose to offer bottled water because I didn’t have access to a dishwasher in my clinic (and I didn’t want to offer single use cups!). But I would still prefer bottled water today over a single glass because it will most likely force you to finish it by the end of the day. It’s an easy way to remember to drink water and take care of yourself throughout your day, long after your visit with me.

Not all waters are made the same and if you are going to rehydrate after a treatment, best do so with naturally alkaline mineral water sourced from artesian springs. The electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium) in the spring water help the body absorb water more efficiently than water alone, ensuring fluids reach cells properly. Electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium) are vital minerals that conduct electrical charges in the body, essential for maintaining hydration, balancing pH levels, and supporting muscle and nerve function. They help the body absorb water more efficiently than water alone, ensuring fluids reach cells properly.

I like @flow water because it’s a Canadian company, their packaging is sustainable, paper-based and plant-based. The water is sourced from artesian springs and is naturally alkaline and full of electrolytes. If you don’t know about electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium), they are vital minerals that conduct electrical charges in the body, essential for maintaining hydration, balancing pH levels, and supporting muscle and nerve function. Electrolytes help the body absorb water more efficiently than water alone, ensuring fluids reach cells properly.

I could go on and on about the benefits of water, especially after a treatment. But I’ll just leave you with these quotes :)

‘’Pure water is the world's first and foremost medicine." — Slovakian Proverb

"Water is the driving force of all nature." — Leonardo da Vinci

"Thousands have lived without love, not one without water." — W. H. Auden
