How to clear summer acne
I had never made the connection between sweat, sunscreen and pimples. I constantly protect myself from the sun because I love to be active in the outdoors during the summer months, but I had never thought of adapting my face routine to the season.
In traditional Chinese medicine, we adapt EVERYTHING to the season - so it's a bit silly of me not to have thought of it before. As my skin is sensitive and prone to small pimples or redness, I am also reluctant to change my skin care habits. Once I find something that works, I don’t want to let it go… Until my skin got ravaged by an invasion of small (and big!) pimples after my last camping trip, where I indulged in hours of paddle boarding, biking and hiking in the sun.
Fortunately for me, this episode was only momentary. A trip to the beautician for a deep professional clean and a few sessions of blue light therapy with my @cellumapro panel pretty much immediately solved the problem. Phew! So I wanted to share here with you what truly helped me in order to avoid you the same trouble and pain.
Did you know that sunscreens, sweat and pollution is often the cause of acne-prone skin during the summer?? It’s a combo that is hard to avoid because : you love being outdoors in the summer so you have to protect yourself with sunscreen, summer activities are often synonymous of sweat and you probably live in a city… So does that mean you are doomed to have acne-prone skin in August? Let me help you with this.
How to effectively get rid of mild acne by adapting your skin care routine to the season
Rinse your face with lukewarm water after a period of intense physical activity (aka sweating ++) and before reapplying your sunscreen. This will help remove dust and bacteria that stick to your oilier skin from sunscreen.
Change your face routine during the summer period by choosing a slightly more exfoliating cleanser than usual and a lighter moisturizer in the evening. In the morning, you can simply rinse your skin with cool water to wake up the dermis. Apply your usual moisturizer and sunscreen
Switch sides on your pillow so you don’t sleep on the same fabric every night and change your pillow case every other day
There is also another trick... Modern facial acupuncture!
You already know the benefits of needles, but did you know that:
Predominantly blue light therapy penetrates the skin at approximately 420 nm (where bacteria proliferate in the dermis layer). Its action kills bacteria causing small (and large!) pimples. This not only gently dries out existing pimples, it also eliminates redness while preventing new pimples from forming. Light therapy is also widely known to help rejuvenate the skin at a cellular level.
Not bad huh? But that's not all!
In addition to light therapy, modern facial acupuncture uses micro current to fully help restore the skin. Micro current helps tighten skin pores, maximize skin hydration and speed up the healing process. It’s also a very powerful tool to help lift and tone the skin. Your skin will not only be acne-free, it will be completely restored and your beautiful summer glow will keep on glowing all the way into fall.
